| The New Windows 8 Logo |
Windows 8 continues to evolve with it's official release date fast approaching. Microsoft said today the official Windows 8 release is scheduled for this Fall and although the exact date has yet to be announced, many feel it will be in October. The latest Windows 8 "Release Preview" shows significant changes from the "Consumer Preview" released in February although they look very similar at first glance.
Along with re-designing the system, Microsoft has also changed the Windows logo to a monochrome blue window instead of the multicolored window logo of past systems. According to Sam Moreau, Principal Director of User Experience for Windows, "We did less of a re-design and more to return it to its original meaning and bringing Windows back to its roots – re-imagining the Windows logo as just that – a window."
Now is a good time to start getting familiar with this revolutionary Windows upgrade. Some of the newest changes in the latest preview and what to expect in Windows 8 official release is found in Tech Radar's review: "Metro is here to stay, but there are numerous improvements to the way you switch apps and open Charms with the mouse and trackpad; significant improvements to the Mail, Calendar, People and Photos apps; the addition of Flash to Metro-style IE; more Metro apps to try out; more attractive live tiles and a better range of colors for personalizing the Start screen. You may not find Metro as disturbing as you think, especially when more notebooks support the full set of trackpad gestures. There are improvements on the desktop as well, including minor interface changes in Explorer and improved multi-monitor support plus privacy and navigation improvements in Internet Explorer. Performance and responsiveness are improved from the already speedy Consumer Preview; rough edges are getting their final polish and the big picture of Windows 8 is coming together."
Even though it is more user friendly, there is still a learning curve from Windows 7 to 8 and we found some helpful hands-on tips to navigate this revolutionary PC platform update.
